Worldwide Studies/Abstracts on Stevia:
Contrary to what many would have you believe, plenty of research has been done touting the benefits of stevia, with no side effects reported. These research studies have been compiled for your perusal here, so take your time and enjoy reading these. Many of the following are copies of the abstracts that summarize the findings, but if you want the full report on a study, you can contact the NIH site or the publication directly.
Here is a summary of their conclusions:
“Stevia and stevioside are safe when used as a sweetener.”
“It is suited for diabetics… obese persons… and PKU patients.”
“No allergic reactions to it seem to exist.”
“Stevioside may be advantageous in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.”
“Stevioside acts as an antihyperglycemic and a blood pressure-lowering substance; effects that may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.”
“Stevioside…was effective in blood pressure reduction.”
“Neither stevioside nor rebaudioside A is cariogenic.”
“In this 2-year study in Chinese patients with mild hypertension, oral stevioside significantly decreased systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure compared with placebo. Quality of life was improved, and no significant adverse effects were noted.”
“Stevioside is an effective antihypertensive natural product.
